Jimmy Julius Nicholson, 85, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Friday October 4, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 16, 1939 in Akron, Ohio to the late Willard and Alma Davis Nicholson. Jimmy was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Southwire Aluminum after 31 years of service.
As a patriarch of a large family, Jimmy filled many roles, all of them well. His calm demeanor and sage advice guided the family at all times, and we were blessed to have such a wise and moral man just a phone call away. A master craftsman and woodworker, he also made sure that all of our homes, cars, and appliances were maintained and in good order. In addition, it’s safe to say no one savored a good cup of black coffee more than Jimmy Nicholson but more than anything, Jimmy cared for and watched over his family, a responsibility that he took very seriously and worked at every day. Jimmy enjoyed traveling with Golden Partners and visiting many countries and states.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy Hurm Nicholson; three daughters, Carol (Steve) Wingfield, Kimberly (Steve) Newsome, and Connie (John Oehmler) Nicholson, all of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Amber Coons, Samantha Brown, Dr. Matthew Damin, Stephani Magan, Taylor Riccio, Tristan Wingfield, and Olivia Richardson; seven great granddaughters, and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Richard Wells.
Funeral services will take place at 4 PM Tuesday, October 8, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM until the time of the service at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Messages and condolences to the family can be shared at www.glenncares.com.
