Jim B. Byrum

Jim B. Byrum, 72, of 7980 U. S. Highway 231, Utica (Masonville) passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Webster Co., KY to the late James M. & Iva Dell Dalton Byrum. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He graduated from Owensboro Senior High School in 1953 and attended Brescia College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He then attended Catherine Spalding University where he received his Masters Degree. He taught in the Meade Co. School System from 1959-67 where he was principal of Flaherty Elementary School. He worked in the lumber business with his father-in-law for a short period of time before teaching again at Owensboro Senior High School from 1968-1972. He then went to work for the KY Education Association as a Uni-Serv director until retiring in 1996. He also had been a member of the Owensboro Kiwanis Club.

Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Nancy Byrum, a son and wife, James A. & Bernadette Byrum of Lexington, KY, three daughters and husbands, Cynthia Cindy & Steve Lossie, Sandra Sandy & Jason Roberts, and Rebecca Becky & Scott Hargitt, all of Owensboro, and seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Christine, Andrew, Hannah, Lindsey, and Allison.

Services will be 12 Noon Thursday, August 24, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brescia University, 717 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
