Jerry Lee Epison Sr., aged 81, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born on September 6, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jerry was the cherished son of the late Ollie and Inez Jones Epison.
Jerry attended Western High School, where he distinguished himself as a talented athlete, particularly in football, basketball and baseball. At the age of 18, Jerry embraced family life by marrying and relocating to Chicago. There, over the span of thirteen years, he worked diligently as a charter bus driver, delighting passengers with guided tours throughout the city.
After these formative years in Chicago, Jerry returned to his beloved Owensboro. His commitment to community safety led him to join the Owensboro Police Department. During his 23 years of service, he served first as a patrolman before becoming known as the dependable driver of the paddy wagon. His dedication to law enforcement earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and citizens alike. Upon retirement, Jerry’s attentiveness and eye for detail found a new outlet in maintaining cleanliness at local businesses, reflecting his steadfast work ethic.
Beyond his public service, Jerry’s passion extended to nurturing the next generation as a coach, referee and umpire for local youth baseball and softball leagues. He was also an avid dog lover, finding joy and companionship in raising his dogs over the years.
Above all, Jerry treasured his role as a devoted family man. He was preceded in death not only by his parents but also by his beloved wife of forty years, Carie Owen Epison.
He is survived by his six children, Brandon Epison (Angel), Anthony McHenry (Litonia), Jonitia Epison, Jerry Epison Jr. (Laura), and Michelle Harris, along with Christopher Epison. His life was further blessed by twenty-six grandchildren, Desla, Dara, Hettie, Tessa, Jharett, Aban, Jazmin, Jhayla, Christopher Jr., Aaron, Amir, Christine, Latoya, A.J., Malcolm, Michael, Miquelle, Jacoby, Isaac, Eli, Rayvon, Christian, Richard, Zion, Israel, and Abrielle; as well as fifteen great-grandchildren who continue his enduring family heritage.
Jerry is also survived by his sister, Becky (Maurice) Hay; a niece, Britney Heald; and a nephew, Blake Reddick, each of whom carry forward the family bonds that meant so much to him.
The memorial service will be held at a future date, to be determined, at The Father’s House, 3031 Bittel Rd. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jerry Lee Epison Sr.'s life was marked by unwavering dedication, whether to his family, his community, or the many roles he filled with pride and grace. His memory remains a treasured part of those who knew and loved him.
