Jerry Harris, 80, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Muhlenburg County to the late Pearlie and Ruby Lee Harris. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and awarded a Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam.
Jerry retired from O’Bryan Contracting following a number of years of service. He was previously employed by Alvey Brothers Contracting. In the 1970’s, he owned Pasquale’s Pizza on Veach Road. Mr. Harris was recognized as an Honorable Kentucky Colonel in 1994. He volunteered countless hours in youth baseball, with much of that being in leadership with West Daviess County Little League Baseball and at Sorgho Playground. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, golfing, horse shows, cooking and U.K. Basketball. He loved spending time with family, most of all with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Grandaddy”. He was faithful to attend their activities, especially sporting events. In all ways, he put others ahead of himself.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Linda T. Harris in 2021; a son, Martin Lynn Harris in 1973; a sister, Hilda Ann Sharp and a brother, James W. Harris.
Mr. Harris is survived by a daughter, Sharon Warren (Phil) of Owensboro; two sons, Cooper Harris of Owensboro and Mike Harris (Paula) of Richland, Indiana; four grandchildren, Blake Warren (Lindsay) of Owensboro, Blair Warren (Jake Lewis) of Owensboro and Alexis and Landon Harris, both of Richland, IN; great- grandchildren, Harlan and Walker Warren of Owensboro; a sister, Judy Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
