Jerry Wayne Fortner, 53, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Philadelphia Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, PA. He was born on March 14, 1959 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Bobby Joe and JoAnn Woodward Fortner. Jerry worked in maintenance for Century Aluminum Co. and had been a volunteer firefighter and an Emergency Medical Technician with the Thruston-Philpot Volunteer Fire Department. He loved racing stock cars in the Mini Stock division at Windy Hollow Raceway and watching his son race motocross. He also loved spending time with his grandson, gardening, and helping others. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Jacob Lathery.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Rose Ward Fortner, his daughter, Amber Fortner of Owensboro, his son, Justin Fortner of Owensboro, his grandson, Alexander Fortner, a sister, Susan (Darrel) Stites of Philpot, and two brothers, Mark Fortner and fianc Rhonda Gray of Owensboro and Robert Fortner of Evansville.
A Celebration of Jerry's Life will be held on Friday, November 23 from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the Daviess Co. Lions Club Fairgrounds in Philpot.
