Jerry Don Davenport

Jerry Don Davenport, 54, son of the late Rev. Carl and Mamie Davenport, was born May 7, 1949 in Paducah, Kentucky and departed this life, May 7, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

He was a graduate of Owensboro Senior High, where he excelled in basketball. He graduated from Cameron State University in Lawton, Oklahoma where he was selected Little Team All American. The Chicago Bulls drafted him where he played for a short time before retiring with an injury. He was employed by the city of Owensboro as the director of the Chautauqua Park Youth Center for over 20 years. He was the founder and director of the Kendall-Perkins Park Dust Bowl for 20 years. He worked for Casino Aztar for 5 years in security. His first wife, Florence Helena Deal, preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn him, a wife, Paula Sumner Davenport; four sons, Andre Cannon and Courtlandt Cannon, both of Evansville, Indiana, Jerred Brandon Davenport of Louisville, and Nicolas Riley of Owensboro; four daughters, Rosalyn Davenport-Gordon and husband Christopher E. Gordon of Louisville, KY, Shilea Sumner, Courtney Brown, and Desirae Davenport, all of Owensboro; stepdaughter Khiya Gregory of Carrier Mills, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Davenport, Jr. and James Davenport and two sisters, Anna Louella Jumper and Mary Davenport-November, all of Owensboro; an aunt, Mrs. Anna Mae Johnson of Evansville, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Good Shepherd Church with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 09, 2003 at Glenn Funeral Home.
