Jeremiah “Jerry” Benjamin Newberry, 87, of Owensboro passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at his home under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. His loving wife and family were by his side. The Clintwood, Virginia native was born July 26, 1939, to the late Willie Roosevelt Newberry and Vaudney Phipps Newberry. Jerry served in the U.S. Army for 9 yrs, was stationed in the U.S. and Germany with a deployment to Vietnam. He was employed at NSA/Century Aluminum before retiring after 35 years. Jerry enjoyed golf, camping, and bluegrass music. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and UK basketball. Bluegrass and gospel were his favorite styles of music with The Stanley Brothers being his favorite band. Jerry was a banjo and guitar player, enjoyed jamming at bluegrass festivals, writing several bluegrass songs, as well as playing in the band, Big River Grass. Some of his notable vacations included England, Scotland, Germany, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas. Jerry was a quiet introverted man who enjoyed a good joke and telling a good story. He loved his family and their times together.

In addition to his parents, Jeremiah also was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years and mother of his children, Linda Monroe Newberry in 2015; siblings, Cecil Newberry, Irene Jones, Dollie Stevens, Sidney Newberry, Arlie Newberry, and Jack Newberry.

Those left to cherish his memory include his dear and loving wife of 10 years, Frances “Jerryline” Cason Newberry; three daughters, Cheryl Spalding (David), Vicky Dubé (Chris) both of Owensboro, and Angela Morris (Matt) of Philpot; stepdaughters, Whitney Crain (Jeff) and Michele Keese (Terry), grandchildren, Catherine Kane (Jon), Logan Weber (Mikayla), Madison Weber, Lauren Marschand (Gavin); step-grandchildren, Patricia Click (Brandon), Jessica Wheeler, and Ashley McKay (Bailey); great grandchildren, Finley, Vivie, Lucy; step-greatgrandchildren, Mia and Mary Kate; siblings, James Newberry (Beulah), Katherine Phipps (Avery), Ann Moore (Elmer), and Bill Newberry (Martha); numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Jerry Newberry will be determined for a later date. Interment with military honors will be in Rosine Cemetery. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
