Jennie Barnes Miller, 100, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday June 7, 2025, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born August 12, 1924, in Ohio County KY, to the late Edward and Vera Caldwell Barnes. Jennie graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1943. She was an office worker all her career, and held positions with KenRad, the American Tobacco Company, and Dunville/Parrish Automotive. Jennie had a caring heart and loved doing things for others. She was born on the Barnes family farm on Goshen Road, just outside of Beaver Dam, KY. Jennie often spoke of the wonderful childhood that she shared with her family growing up on the farm. She married Kenneth Walton Miller on April 5, 1947, and they had one son, Bruce, born in 1957. They had a happy devoted marriage for over 75 years.
Jennie was a devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a longtime member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was blessed with a long and healthy retirement. Jennie enjoyed spending time with friends and family, attending church, and working in her flower beds, she was a true light to all that knew her. Jennie always viewed things in a positive way, even in difficult times. She truly wanted to be more like her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ each and every day. She was often heard saying “This is the day that the Lord has made be glad in it” and “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Jennie truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sharing the things she loved with them.
Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Kenneth Miller; stepfather, Carl Bristow; a brother, Caldwell “Buddy” Barnes; her sisters, Margaret (Haven), Anna (Buck), Virginia (Sheffield), Mary Louise and Nana Katherine Barnes.
Jennie is survived by her son, Bruce Miller of Owensboro; grandchildren, Bradley (Kristen) Miller of Owensboro and Krystal (Brian) Hale of Matlacha, FL; great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Landon, Braylon Miller and Julia, Ella, Rush, and Miller Hale; and many more nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 11, 2025, in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
