Capt. Jeffrey "Jeff" Allen Millay, 55, of Stanley, KY, died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family while in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born in Owensboro to Robert and Joann Millay, graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and attended Brescia University. After serving in the Air Force, Jeff became a member of the Owensboro Fire Department. He would spend the next 27 years rising through the ranks of the department and being promoted to Captain on December 1, 1998. While at OFD Capt. Millay would lead the OFD Honor Guard, serve on the Technical Rescue Team, and served as a pilot of the OFD Fire Rescue Boat providing valuable Ohio River expertise.
He had a great love for his family and friends and enjoyed any thing to do with the river, boating, skiing, and fishing. Jeff had a great sense of humor and generously donated his time and talent to others. He was a regular at the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center donating life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Millay.
Survivors include his wife, Robin West Millay; children, Emily Millay-Daugherty (Angela), Andrea Millay-Higgs (Tristan), Hannah Millay and Cayden Millay; step-children, Rebecca Hodskins and Carter Simpson; mother, Joann Millay; sister, Angie Park (Michael); brothers, Robert A. "Tony" Millay (Suzann) and Steven Millay (Tonya); grandchildren, Asher Capri Higgs, Axton Lamar Higgs, Cloud Alexander Hodskins and McKenzie M. Clark; 11 nieces and nephews; one great-niece; and his faithful furry companion of 17 years, Taffy.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter of Alcantara in Stanley. Visitation will be from 3 pm until 8 pm Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 am Wednesday at the church. Prayers will be Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
