Jeffrey Allen Hedges, 58, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Owensboro on December 18, 1953, he was a graduate of Daviess County High School (1971) and attended Brescia; worked delivery for Mullen & Haynes for more than 20 years and most recently worked as a service technician for CherriCare. He was a member of St Pius Tenth Catholic Church; was an assistant coach for the Owensboro Catholic Middle School football team; worked the chain gang for all Owensboro Catholic High School football games; and was a member of the Knights of Columbus currently serving as the Grand Knight. Mr. Hedges was active in scouting from his youth and later as a scout leader. He was awarded the Bronze Pelican and the Saint George Medals which are bestowed upon an adult scout leader by the Catholic Committee on Scouting. He encouraged many cub scouts and boy scouts to earn their religious medals as well as teaching the classes. He also received the Silver Beaver which is the highest award a Council can bestow on a volunteer for outstanding service to youth in the scouting program. A loving husband, father, son and brother, he was a friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Allen Hedges in 1998.

Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Mary Charlotte Kaelin Hedges; a son, 2LT Ben Hedges of Owensboro; his mother, Marbrey Poynter Hedges; brothers, Brian (Cathy) Hedges and Mark (Sherree) Hedges of Owensboro; a sister, Paula (COL. Jeff) Garrott of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2012 at St Pius Tenth Catholic Church with Father Julian Ibemere officiating followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the St Pius Tenth Capital Campaign or to Owensboro Catholic Schools.
