Sister Jean Madeline Peake, OSU
Maple Mount Sister Jean Madeline Peake, 99, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Oct. 23, 2014, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 75th year of religious life. She was a native of Holy Cross.
Sister Jean Madeline was always joyful and active. An educator for 48 years, she remained beloved by many of her former students. She taught at St. Joseph School, Owensboro (1937-46) and St. Joseph School, Central City (1946-50). She also taught or served as principal elsewhere in Kentucky and in Missouri, and was a parish minister in Leitchfield, from 1996-2002, and she served as director of the craft room at Mount Saint Joseph. After her retirement, she continued to use her gifts as a seamstress to make beautiful quilts for the support of the Ursuline community.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
