Jean Carroll Ezell, 88, of Owensboro, passed away January 22, 2024, at her home. Born July 27, 1935, to the late Eugene and Leona Carroll, she was the last of the generation that was born during the depression. She spent her childhood during World War II, and sock hopped to rock and roll in the fifties and saw the dawn of the space age.
Jean graduated from Owensboro High School in the class of 1953. She was a faithful member of Christ Community Church and found solace and strength in her faith. Jean had a fulfilling career with the Department of Social Services, dedicating 25 years of service to improving the lives of others.
In her leisure time, Jean enjoyed watching sports, with baseball holding a special place in her heart. She remained a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros throughout her life and enthusiastically followed their journeys on the diamond. Jean cherished her family above all. Throughout her life, she held dear the memories made while traveling to visit her loved ones. The joyous moments shared with her family created an unbreakable bond that will be treasured forever. We take comfort knowing that mom lived a full life and lived every day on her own terms.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, John Thomas “J.T.” Ezell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John Thomas Ezell III (Lana); a daughter, Susan Carroll Ezell Newman (Dr. Mark); five grandchildren, Jennifer Brook Ezell Jimenez (Mike), Sarah Catherine Newman, John “Jack” Franklin Newman III (Katherine), Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Newman, Michaela Leona Ezell (Brishon); and two great-grandchildren, Molly Grace Jimenez, and Lucy Elizabeth Jimenez. Although Jean was an only child, she surrounded herself with a loyal circle of friends who were cherished like sisters. Their presence in her life brought immeasurable happiness, support, and laughter.
The funeral service for Jean will be 12 PM Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM until 7 PM and Saturday 11 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
