Jay Hardy OFlynn, Jr., 80, of Owensboro died Friday, November 11, 2005 at his home. Born July 3, 1925 in Owensboro, the son of the late Jay Hardy, Sr. and Stella Jackson Ambrose OFlynn, Mr. OFlynn attended Owensboro High School, graduated from Georgia Military College and was commissioned in the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. He served in the South Pacific during WW II. The retired owner of Jays L.P. Gas and a Texaco Oil Distributor, he was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, a previous member of the airport board and enjoyed cooking and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia Pat OFlynn on January 10, 2000, and his sister, Mary Rose Barr, on October 29, 2005.
Survivors include his children, Martha Kay OFlynn Harper, and her husband, Rowe, of Prospect, KY and Dr. Jay Hardy OFlynn, III, of Dayton, OH; his grandchildren, Chadwick Rowe Harper, Korey Harper Yelton, and her husband, Chris, Shelley McKay Harper, Hunter Field Harper, Jay Hardy OFlynn IV, Katherine Ann OFlynn, Bryan Patrick OFlynn, and Emily Leigh OFlynn; his great-granddaughter, McKinley Kate Yelton; and his sister, JoAnn Gipe, of Owensboro.
Services are at 10:00 AM Monday, at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be 1:30 until 4:00 PM Sunday, and after 8:30 AM on Monday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
