Jay Willis Baker, 79, of Philpot, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Monticello, KY, to the late Claude and Clara Flynn Baker. Jay was a retired union electrician with the Local Union IBEW 1701, served in the Air Force, and loved UK Basketball. He also enjoyed watching baseball and golf, hunting arrowheads, vegetable gardening, and spending time with his friends at JR's Market in Utica. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Louise McCarthy Baker; brothers, Odell, Forrest, Kay and Claude Lee Baker; and sisters, Audrey Baker, Ruby Jones, and Elizabeth Skinner.
Survivors include his children, Varoncia "Ronnie" Durbin and her husband Mike of Haubstadt, IN and Victor Jay Baker and his wife Sandy of Philpot; grandchildren, Meredith Durbin Sumner, Lindsey Durbin, Jarrod Durbin, Victor Jay Baker, II, and Thomas Cameron Baker; great-grandson, Lleyton Michael Sumner; loving and supportive sister, Paula Jane Ratliff of Utica; mother-in-law, Beulah McClain of Owensboro; special sisters-in-law, Betty Baker of Bremen and Wanda Faye Baker of Masonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins all of them special to Jay.
Services will be at Noon on Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. T. Chris Nebel and the staff of Hospice of Western Kentucky, especially Kelly and Angie for all of their care.
