Jarold Bertis Nickens

Jarold Bertis Nickens, 72, of Owensboro passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at Hillcrest nursing home in Corbin, Ky. Mr. Nickens was born March 25th, 1944 in Warrick County, Indiana, to the late Bertis and Grace Miller Nickens. He was a graduate of Rockport, IN High School and was a former employee of the KY State Police for 24 years.

He enlisted in the Armed services in Aug, 1962 where he served with the 101st Airbourne Division at Fort Campbell until August 1965. He was sworn in as a State Police Trooper in October, 1968 and a few years later made Detective. He married Rita Sue Eaton of Owensboro, KY on Oct. 8th, 1965 and they were married 51 years.


Mr. Nickens was preceded in death by his brother Harold Nickens, his sister Linda Motteler and his grandson Nickolas Jaynes, and great niece Rebecca Stoermer.

Survivors include his daughters, Leslie Jaynes Phelps and her husband John of Corbin , Ky., Mary Katherine Shah and her husband Chris of Owensboro; brother, John William Nickens of Troy, Indiana, and sister Ruby Stoermer of Richmond, Indiana. Grandchildren include Nickolas Jaynes, Aaron Shah, Zachary Shah, Hannah Jaynes, Eden Jaynes, Bethany Jaynes, Merci Jaynes, Jackson Shah, and Joshua Jaynes.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers at 7pm.
The service will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Daniel Eaton officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitors are welcome on the day of the funeral from 10:00 AM till time of service at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
