Janice Berkeley Millay

March 5, 1916 — November 18, 2006

Mrs. Joseph (Janice) Millay, 90, of 808 Ford Avenue in Owensboro, died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at her home. Mrs. Millay was born in Owensboro, the eighth of eleven children, to the late Needham H. and Louise Bacon Cooke and grew up on the family farm in Newman. She was a graduate of Daviess County High School and attended University of Alabama before returning to Owensboro to help support the family. She married Joseph B. Millay in June of 1944, and together they had four children. Mrs. Millay was a past president of the Owensboro Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was retired from The Daviess County Public library, but volunteered there one day a week mending books. She also volunteered one day a week at the HELP office. She was a proud member of National Society of the Daughters of the American revolution and a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Millay is survived by her daughter Patricia Hurd of White Salmon, Washington; two sons: Berkeley Millay of Powder Springs, Georgia and William P. Millay of Pensacola, Florida; her brother Stephen Cooke of Kaufman, Texas; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews as well as several beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Joseph B., and their infant son Thomas, sisters Helen Ripley, Nora Esterling, Needham Myers, Patricia (Waitman) Quinn, and Virgin O'Hara; and brothers Norbourne, Todd, John and Billie.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with Reverend Father Pat Connell officiating. Visitation at Glenn Funeral Home will be on Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday morning after 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Millay requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, or the Owensboro HELP Office.
