Janice C. Alwes, 88, of Owensboro and formerly of Louisville and Rancho Viejo, TX, passed away Monday, November 30 at her home. Born in Detroit, a daughter of the late Russell Alger Murdoch and Frieda Yackle Murdoch, Mrs. Alwes graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in home economics and worked several years as a home economist with General Electric in Louisville where she and her late husband John Bernard Alwes, who preceded her in death in 2002, raised their family. With a zest for life and all it had to offer, she was an artist, enjoyed golf and dancing, was a member of the San Benito United Methodist Church, and served on the board of aldermen in Rancho Viejo. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Lightfoot.
Survivors include her daughters, Karla Alwes of Locke, NY, Susan Broughman-Lewis (James) of Louisville, and Jill Keller (Gary) of Owensboro; her sons, Warner A. "Sandy" Broughman (Pam) of Lexington, Derek Alwes (Sunny) of Granville, OH, David Alwes of Shepherdsville, KY, and Kenny Alwes (Ruth) of Brentwood, TN; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; her brother, Keith Murdoch (Jean )of Anaheim, CA and her sister, Marion Widger of Grantham, NH.
Services are 12:00 noon Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 11:00 a.m. Friday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Goodfellows or Oasis.
