Janet Haycraft Robinson, 83, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born November 9, 1932 to the late Major J. Haycraft and Dr. Sarah Lesch Haycraft.
Janet was a graduate of Owensboro High School, attended the University of Kentucky majoring in Math, but left college to return to Owensboro with her husband to establish his law practice. After their two children attained teenage years she returned to the classroom where she graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College and obtained her Masters degree at Western Kentucky University. After obtaining her masters she completed three additional semesters of study at the Institute of Espanol in Soria, Spain.
After teaching high school for two years she accepted a position at Kentucky Wesleyan as a Spanish instructor, retiring there after fifteen years of service.
Janet was an avid duplicate bridge player, ranked by the American Contract Bridge League as a Life Master. She played with several local duplicate bridge groups. She was a supporter and steady user of the Daviess County Public Library.
She and her husband traveled extensively, and enjoyed their time in the American West, England and Europe. She particularly liked having one of her grandchildren join her so they could experience the various cultures. As a certified scuba diver, she enjoyed diving in Cozumel Mexico, especially during the Kentucky winter months. For a number of years, in cooperation with local oncology physician, she knitted caps for women who lost their hair due to chemotherapy.
Janet was a member of the Daviess County Democratic Executive Committee and attended the Open Door Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Calvin Ray Robinson; daughter, Laura Robinson of Owensboro; son, David Ray Robinson of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. And brothers Joe Haycraft and David Haycraft, both of Owensboro.
Visitation will be from 1 pm to 4 pm Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be private. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
