Janet Myles McCarty, 93, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Hermitage. Born in Daviess County on June 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice Shown Myles; was retired from General Electric where she worked for 38 years; and was a lifetime member of Central Presbyterian Church. Mrs. McCarty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, traveling, and watching both UK and Louisville basketball. She especially liked spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. McCarty was a life member of the Daughters' of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, John C. Roberts in 1941 and James L. McCarty in 1978; a brother, Herman Myles, and a sister, Carrie Ellen Hicks.
Surviving is a son, John C. Roberts and his wife Sandy of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jason (Mallory) Roberts of Hartford, Ryan Roberts of Lexington, Gavin (Molly) Roberts of Owensboro, and Gretchen (David) Stokes of Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Clayton Roberts, Landry Roberts, Evan Roberts, Katie Roberts, Millie Roberts, Emme Roberts, Macy Roberts, Kaydence Stokes, and Jonathan Stokes; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Doug Blair officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
