Jane Murphy Smith, 69, of Brown's Valley passed from this life on September 3, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 9, 1939, in Weakley Co., TN, she was the daughter of the late Elvin "Doc" Murphy and Delma Oliver Roney and was a graduate of Martin County High School in 1957. Jane was married to her beloved and devoted husband, Dennis, for 46 years and resided at their home in Brown's Valley. Together they raised two children, Carolyn Denise and Steven Christopher. She retired from Williams Pipeline in February 2002, after 14 years of service; was a member of Owensboro Christian Church; and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She created a warm and loving home for family and friends. An avid fan of road trips, Jane enjoyed traveling with her husband taking in 34 of the 50 states, visiting 25 state capitol buildings during her travels.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Steven and daughter-in-law, Sheri Litton Smith, and grandsons, Steven Tyler and Logan Jeffrey Smith all of Frankfort; a daughter, Carolyn Smith Ferber of Longmont, CO; a sister, Reba Adams Callins of Greenfield, TN; a brother, Robert Adams of Sharon, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 10 A.M. Monday, September 7, 2009, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rick Grover and Father Mike Clark officiating followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky or the Humane Society of Daviess County.
