Jan D. Kuegel, 67, of 2260 South York Street, Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was treasurer for many years. He was a member and past president of the Daviess Co. Lions Club, former board member of Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home, and was a farm consultant at Green River Rural Electric for five years. In 1964, he started the Southeast Daviess Co. Water District and later started the West District in 1968. He was still Manager of both the Southeast and West Districts at the time of his death. He was also a longtime member of the Travelers Protective Association and a Ky. Colonel. He was a 1958 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He was in the Farm House Fraternity. He was a licensed operator for the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet, Division of Water. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Higdon and a grandson, Michael Brandon Higdon in 1982, his parents, Martin & Cecil Crabtree Kuegel, two brothers, Robert & James Kuegel, and a sister-in-law Carrie Newman Kuegel.
Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Mary Haley Kuegel, two daughters, Rebecca Kuegel Brown and her husband, Terry of Chandler In., and Alena Jo Kuegel Johnson of Richmond, Ky. and former son-in-law, William Higdon, three grandchildren, Jancee Marie Seib, Joseph August Seib, and Jordan Donal Johnson, stepgrandchildren, Chris, Jeremy, and Tyler Brown, two brothers, William Kuegel and John Kuegel, Sr., both of Owensboro, a sister, Rebecca Kuegel Newman of Philpot, and several nieces & nephews.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 7, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with entombment following in the Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home.
