James W. Young, 93, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home. He was born in Yelvington, KY to the late Jim and Delia Young. Mr. Young joined the Army at a young age and served in World War II in the Philippines. A short time after his honorable discharge, he began his work as a truck driver for Transit Mix Concrete Company, where he retired after nearly 40 years. He was a member of Center Street Baptist Church where he enjoyed cooking. Mr. Young also enjoyed stock car racing and horse racing and baseball. He was preceded in death by wife of 55 years, Emma Jean Young; a foster son, George M Riley; sisters, Lolita Jackson, Georgia Mae McHenry, Leitha Faith, Mary Ella Walls; and brother, Louis Albert Young.
Survivors include his foster daughter, Katie Riley, a host of foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Torres; five sister-in-laws, Amanda Porter, Shirley Worthen, who was also his caregiver, Phyllis Akpan (Rev. John), Martha Gibson, and Betty Gibson; brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Gibson (Donna); a host of nieces and nephews, and former boss and best friend, Kim Aigner.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will begin at Noon. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Pastor Chris Wiggs officiating.
