James G. Wilson, 90, of Owensboro died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Mr. Wilson was born in Daviess County to the late James R. and Katherine (Shauntee) Wilson, and was a self-employed farmer who restored and farmed with old International Harvester tractors. He was known for his complete and detailed knowledge of automobiles and tractors. He attended the University of Kentucky for two years before World War II began and he went into the U.S. Army serving in the 44th Tank Battalion, which was the first tank battalion in the Southwest Pacific and played a part in the liberation of Manila and allied internees at Santos Tomas Interment Camp. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 59 1/2 years, Martine Wiesman Wilson, a son, J. Martin Wilson of Owensboro; daughters Ann Snively and husband Jay of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Jane Wilson and husband John L. Reynolds of Owensboro; a sister: Georgetta Madole, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Jess Russell officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. The family has asked that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association of Western Kentucky.
