James Louis Wilkins Sr., 87, of Worthington Road, Owensboro, died September 3, 2010 at his home. James was born October 31, 1922 in Daviess County to the late Louis and Almedia (Vincent) Wilkins. He retired as a captain of the Owensboro Fire Department after 30 years, he also worked 30 years at Murphy Miller, and had his own refinishing business. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a Christian. He loved watching all sports, especially boxing and baseball. He enjoyed his dog Willie, woodworking, building furniture and cabinets.
James' wife of 62 years, Rose Mary (Abell) Wilkins preceded him in death, December 10, 2004, as well as his siblings, Clyde, Marie, May, Nora, Helen, Kenneth, Lois Jane "Sissy", and a daughter in law, Brenda Wilkins.
Surviving are his sons, James Wilkins Jr., Jesse Wilkins and wife Debbie, and Billy Wilkins and wife Carol, and a daughter, Nora Lee and husband Billy, all of Owensboro, grandchildren, Katrina Oost, Chasity Wilkins, Bill Wilkins Jr., Chris, Steven, Justin and Ross Lee and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home Crematory with Rev. Kenny Stone officiating. Entombment will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
