James Haymen "Sam" Ward, 87, of the Carmel Home, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born November 26, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas to the late James Ira and Mary Beatrice Peak Ward. Sam was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1074. He was retired from Wyndall's Foodland as a Meat Cutter and Cashier and also had worked for Eastern Airlines at the airport. Sam was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #696 and the American Legion Post #9. He was a graduate of Daviess County High School and had attended Brescia College.
Sam was also preceded in death by four brothers, Martin Ward, Charles A. Ward, Harold Ward, and Wilsie Ward.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marie Blandford Ward, four sisters, Kathleen Wedding, Betty Hamilton, Barbara Jones, and Rita Ward, all of Owensboro, two brothers, Robert Ward and wife Helen of Philpot and Donnie Ward and wife Paula of Whitesville, a sister-in-law, Sharon Ward of Philpot, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 15, at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and from 8:30-9:30 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
