James Robert Wade, 74, of Owensboro, formerly of Central City, died Friday, September 14, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Sherman, Texas to the late, Charles T. and Duska Pratz Wade. Retired from the United States Army, he served two tours during Vietnam, 1967 and 1969, and received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight and two Bronze Stars for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. Mr. Wade also retired from the United States Postal Service, was a Seven Day Adventist, and a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, and the Muhlenberg County Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Mr. Wade was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Ann Fortney.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helga Wade; daughter, Debrah Fortney and her husband Mark of Owensboro; son, James R. Wade, Jr. and his wife Sherri of Louisville; brother, Jack Wade of Paris, AR; sister, Charlene Tucker of Copeville, TX; grandchildren, Ryanne Kurzen and her husband David, Jacob Wade Fortney, Jillian Shea Fortney, Megan Lindsay Shaw, and Kaitlyn Marie Wade; and great-grandsons, Ethan and Elijah Shaw.
Services will be held 6 p.m. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Central City. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will be private in Rosehill Cemetery in Central City.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the cancer research fund of ones choice.
