James Albert Sweeney, 73, of 1422 Hill Avenue, Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born December 7, 1931 in Daviess County to the late John and Emma (Norris) Sweeney. He was a member of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Green River Steel. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Sweeney in 1971, and three brothers, Amos, Walker and Herman Sweeney. He enjoyed watching baseball on tv and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gwendine Leisure Sweeney of Owensboro, two sons, Mike Sweeney and wife Janice, Barry Sweeney and wife Scarlett, both of Owensboro, two grandchildren, Laura and David Sweeney, both of Owensboro,three step grandchildren, Bryan and Kyle Sweeney, of Missouri, and Steven Randall of Owensboro, a brother, John Sweeney and wife, Wanda, and a sister, Dorothy Willyard and husband Bill, all of Owensboro. His mother in law, Pauline Boyd of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 10 a.m. Saturday.
