James T. Smith

March 3, 1925 — January 30, 2008

James "J. T." Smith, 82, of Owensboro, went to be with Jesus, Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, KY. He was born March 3, 1925 to the late Rube and Stella Daugherty Smith in Butler County. He was a member and deacon of Karns Grove Baptist Church and was a Navy Veteran of WW II, and had retired from Kellwood Company in Morgantown. He was a member of the Ensor Masonic Lodge # 729 and the York Rites of Owensboro.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Boadley and Sibert Smith, and two sisters, Neva Flowers and Dorothy Thurby Moore, and a daughter-in-law, Suglenda Sheldon Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Wanda Romans Smith; a son, Phillip Smith of Hawesville, his daughters, Deby (Larry) Hall of Owensboro; Evon (Bill) Boswell of Lewisport; six grandchildren, Jason Smith, Brad (Tonya) Smith and Jared Smith, Casey (Amanda) Hall, Tabitha (Gordon) Davis and Shannon Boswell; four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Hunter Smith, and Mackenzie and Trent Davis; a sister, Jo Ann (Estil) Kizer of Owensboro.

Services will be 12:00 PM Friday at Salem Baptist Church in Logansport, KY with burial in Salem Cemetery in Butler County. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, with Masonic Services at 7:00 PM at the Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation Friday will be after 11:00 AM at the Church with Military Services at the gravesite. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Cemetery Fund, % Doris A. Tichenor, 1086 Annis Ferry Road, Morgantown, KY 42261.
