James M. "Jim" Sharp, 72, of Owensboro died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 under the Care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Jim was born in Bells Run, Ohio County, Kentucky to the late James L. and Estelle Ward Sharp. He cherished memories of growing up in and around Bells Run and Bells Run Baptist Church where he belonged to Boy Scouts and celebrated many life events. He was proud of that heritage and many of his interests reflected that country beginning. He commented that he may have been born a couple hundred years late because he so enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, woodworking, making knives and frontier-era guns. Jim found true peace and joy in the beauty of the outdoors. He had many other hobbies, including travelling, riding his Vespa scooter and roaming the farm on his four-wheeler. Jim was a very hard working man, a devoted husband of fifty-three years and loving father to his children. He loved being in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandson. His relationships with God and family were foremost in his life.
Jim retired from Commonwealth Aluminum in 2000 after more than thirty years of service. He was also employed by Ford Motor Co. in Chicago for several years in the sixties. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church, where he belonged to the Open Door Sunday School Class, a Kentucky Colonel and member of North American Furbearers Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Ford.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly Ann Belcher Sharp; a daughter, Summer Tennille Sharp Gilliam; a son, Christopher Brad Sharp; grandchildren, Hillary, Peyton, Brody, Ryan, Lettie and Libby; a great-grandson, Vinny; sisters, Barbara Belcher and Marie Rock; and a brother, Roger Sharp.
The service will be at 12 Noon, Saturday, February 4 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. Paul Strahan will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 PM and after 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bells Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bell's Run Cemetery Fund, 5554 State Route 764 Whitesville, KY 42378.
