James B. Rowan, Sr., 86, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. He was born January 20, 1923 to the late Griffin and Anna Mae Hill Rowan in Daviess County. He was a member of the IBEW and had worked for Ohio Valley Neon Sign and Federal Sign Companies. He was an Army Veteran of WW II and was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed working in his yard, boating, horse racing and being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lucille Rowan on May 13, 2009; a grandson, Britt Scott; three brothers, Jimmy, Jackie and Rev. Tony Rowan; three sisters, Fay Maugherman, Louise Manaway, and Rebecca Ann Ford.
Survivors include his son, J.B. (Carla) Rowan, Jr., his daughters, Judy (Earl) Lanham, and Toni (Rick) Taylor, all of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Stacy Boarman, Jameson Moore, Monica Padilla, Joshua Rowan and Zacharie Wilde; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Rowan, two sisters, Betty Shock and Phyllis Embry, all of Owensboro; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors given by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Support Group, Daviess County District, 1650 West 2nd St., Suite 106, Owensboro, KY 42301.
