James Gary Riney, 75, of Sorgho, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. A son of the late James L. and Mary Kathryn Wimsatt Riney, Mr. Riney was a purchasing agent for Moonlite and Old Hickory; was a funeral service associate for Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory; and was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran. Mr. Riney was a member of the Serra Club, the Knights of Columbus; and was a Mount St. Joseph Associate. Gary never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. He was a kind, gentle man who will be missed by family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lynn Riney.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Helen Knight Riney, a daughter, Susan Guernsey and her husband Jeff of Louisville; grandchildren, Emily, Grant and Grace Guernsey; four brothers, David Riney, Michael (Faye) Riney, and Bruce Riney, all of Owensboro, and Ken (Ruth) Riney of St. Louis; four sisters, Barbara June (Stewart) Coomes, Betty Gail Sims Armendarez, and Janice (Billy) Morton, all of Owensboro, and Francil (Bob) Higdon of Hartford; a sister-in-law, Faye Cecil Riney of Owensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with Father Mark Buckner officiating. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory from 3-7 P.M. on Friday and after 9 A.M. on Saturday. Prayers will be 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
There will be a memorial book in the lobby of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory for friends to sign from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 7232 Hwy 56, Owensboro, KY 42301.
