James "J.P." Poteat, 94, of Owensboro, passed away July 8, 2018 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center. He was born October 9, 1923 in LaFayette, AL to the late Thomas and Minnie Poteat. James was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was also a member of CrossPointe Baptist Church. James worked at G.E. and then later at National Southwire Aluminum where after 15 years, he retired as a Maintenance Mechanic. He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, walking and in his younger days, playing golf. James was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Poteat; daughter-in-law, Judy Poteat; grandson-in-law, Bobby Bartlett; six sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his children, Lynn Fogle (Phil); Jim Poteat (Annamaria), Steve Poteat (Vickie), Keith Poteat (Alisha); nephew, Jerry Dockery (Susan); grandchildren, Brad Fogle (Kim), David Fogle, Carrie Haycraft (Ray), Seth Poteat (Karen), Michael Puckett (Angela), Logan Poteat, Colby Huff (Christine), Truman Poteat, Jared Dockery and Autumn Head (Terrance); great-grandchildren, Cole Fogle, Jack Fogle, Charlie Fogle, Ashlee Bartlett, Hailee Bartlett, Mason Bartlett, Jude Poteat, Leighton Poteat, Ayden Puckett, Addy Puckett, Maitlin Puckett, Christopher Matulevich-Roome, Jonathan Huff, Theodore Huff, Abbigail Dockery, and Kyler Head; one great-great-grandchild, Tinslee Clements and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
