James "Earl" Peercy

James “Earl” Peercy, also known as Daddy, Uncle, Brother, Red, Earl the Pearl, Ned, and sometimes Killer, depending on who he was with. Earl was born March 20, 1937, to Ted and Eva Peercy in Peckinpaugh Holler (Ohio County, KY), weighing in at a whopping 14 pounds.

Earl started his entrepreneurial journey at a ripe young age, building and selling scooters.

A 1956 graduate of Daviess County High School, he played on the first football team as center. He was also elected Best Athlete and Mr. Echoes by his peers. He received a full scholarship for football, and after a few weeks of academic torture, he moved on to join the Army. He was stationed at Fort Benning, then transferred to Braunschweig, Germany. His time there was spent repairing fixed-wing aircraft engines and playing football.

Earl excelled at building water treatment plants, storage tanks, bridges, and most anything steel-related. Although he was in a leadership position, he was in the trenches with his employees, leading by example.

He mentored countless young men, inspiring them to reach their own goals. Earl fancied projects, and even if there were shortcuts, he enjoyed the long math of every one of them.

He was a speaker of truth, even when it hurt. His circle of friends was broad and diverse, and he always rooted for the underdog. He was more about serving than being served.

Earl enjoyed his trips to the mountains, reading the Bible and history, watching car races, and motorcycle trips with many friends. He loved hanging out with his dogs Gretal and Gracie and he always enjoyed endless tinkering.

Earl is survived by his son Gregory and his daughter Lisa. He is also survived by his siblings Art, David, Nevada, and Marie, and by many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his siblings Zorah, Letha, Catherine, and J.C.

He was loved and adored by many and will be remembered for his quick wit, fairness, and humility. A man who firmly believed in the power of forgiveness and the grace found in offering it to others.

In lieu of flowers, do as Earl would: perform an anonymous act of kindness for a friend, neighbor, or stranger.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
