James R. "Bob" Parker, 86, formerly of Burton Rd., Utica, KY, went to be with Jesus on August 26, 2016. He was born on October 4, 1929, to James W. and Ludwina K. Hurm Parker in Owensboro, KY. He served in the Navy from August, 1948, until August, 1949, before transferring to the US Naval Reserve until August, 1955. He worked at Murphy-Miller, Inc., and retired from Green River Steel in 1986. He had been an active member of Hall Street Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Director. He recently became a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Bob had also been a leader in the Boy Scouts. He was a devoted husband and father who loved woodworking and spending time outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Parker of Winterville, Georgia, in 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nettie Roach Parker; a son, Robert M. Parker (Nancy) of Owensboro; a daughter, Paula G. Miller (Hollie) of Knoxville, TN; a son, James D. Parker (Laura) of Yosemite, CA; eight grandchildren, J. Parker (Tiffany) of Owensboro, Christi Hatfield (Josh) of Beaver Dam, Tim Miller (Jenny) of Knoxville, Aaron Parker (Cherokee) of Philpot, John Miller (Lindsay) of Knoxville, Sarah Baldwin (Wes) of Winter Park, FL, Jeron Parker (Brooke) of Owensboro, and Tyler Parker of Owensboro; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Beckhart of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
