James L. O'Bryan, Sr., 73, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. on March 23, 1937 to the late G. T. and Mary Theresa Byrne O'Bryan. He was the owner and operator of O'Bryan Farm Service, was a farmer, and a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. He worked very hard his entire life and loved taking care of his family and his brother Festus. James was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Patricia Morton O'Bryan, his children, Karen Cecil and husband Craig of Owensboro, James L. "Bo" O'Bryan and wife Bonnie of Owensboro, Amy Owen and husband Kelly of Utica, Jean Nelson and husband Cully of Scottsboro, AL, June Travers and husband Don of Owensboro, Michael Shane O'Bryan of Owensboro, and Jennifer Phillips and husband David of Bardstown, 15 grandchildren, Mandy Boswell, Natalie Cecil, Emily Cecil, Cody Cecil, Kelly Owen, Jr., Elizabeth Owen, Cully Nelson II, Tyler Nelson, Katie Nelson, Haley Nelson, Jacob Head, Jeremy Head, Cassie Head, Molly O'Bryan, and Maryssa Phillips, nine great grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters, Nancy Hasenmueller of St. Louis, Gail Leathers, of Owensboro, Peggy O'Bryan of New York, Patty Ijames, Jackie Abshier, Tom "Festus" O'Bryan, and Theresa Mercker, all of Owensboro, and Jerry O'Bryan of Curdsville.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 8 at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with burial following in St. Peter Cemetery at Stanley. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
