James Edward "Eddie" Mattingly, Jr., 72, of Philpot, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born April 14, 1952, in Owensboro, Ky to the late James Edward Mattingly Sr. and Wilma Burch Mattingly. He attended Living Hope Community Church and loved his church family. Eddie worked at Mattingly’s Plumbing, was a former co-owner of Montgomery-Webb Plumbing & Heating, and a horse trainer who had a passion for working with horses.
The greatest work he had ever done was sharing the word of God to all who would listen. God has a plan and purpose for our lives and all we must do is be obedient to his word, Eddie was doing that. He loved reading the Bible. The Legacy that he is leaving behind is one of the most important legacies there is and that is (salvation) and so many people have been saved and born again because of one man, Eddie, that accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, and changed his life forever 36 years ago. All the glory and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:16 for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:3, Jesus answered and said to him, verily, verily I say unto you accept a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Mattingly, Sr. and Wilma Burch Mattingly; two brothers, Charles “Pinky” Mattingly and Curtis Mattingly; and a niece, Tara Mattingly Harley.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Vickie Mullican Mattingly; and their sons, Shane (Michelle) Mattingly of Philpot Ky, Brandon (April) Mattingly of Whitesville Ky, and Matthew (Kim) Mattingly of Philpot, Ky; 10 Grandchildren, Kaitlin (Aaron) Robertson, Madi (Mike) Cisneros, Tyler (Grace) Mattingly, Kendra (Justin) Tudor, Malea Mattingly, Delaney Mattingly (fiancé, Nathan Atwood), Leland (Jersey) Mattingly, Holly Mattingly, Gabriel “Gabe” Mattingly, and Katie Mattingly; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell (Sheila) Mattingly and Tony (Peggy) Mattingly; two sisters, Doris (Bruce) Evans and Angie (Greg) Beyke; sisters-in-law, Debbie Goggans (Allen) Thompson, Donna (Steve) Rudy, and Julia (Blair) Thomas; also many special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Eddie will be at 2 p.m., Friday October 4, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 11 until 2 p.m. Friday. The burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
