James Frederick “Fred” Maglinger Jr., 99, of Owensboro, KY passed away on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born October 20, 1926, in Daviess County, to the late Fred Sr. and Bertha Lee Long Maglinger. Fred owned his own painting business for many years, Fred Maglinger Signs, and was a member of Bridgepointe Church where he recently was recognized as its eldest member, always letting his faith guide every decision he made. He was a family man, and dearly loved each of his grandchildren with all his heart, often raising his hands above his head and telling them “Sky High for Pappaw”. He also enjoyed tinkering around in his house and garage, playing scrabble with his daughter, Amy, and if you knew Fred, you were always treated to a good joke or story.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane Blanford Maglinger; a son, Danny Keith Maglinger Sr.; 7 brothers, J.W., Woodrow, William Earl, Calvin, Hoover, Homer, and Ozzie Maglinger; and his 2 sisters, Odelia Maglinger and Hazel Miller.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Amy (Nick) Richard and Peggy (Jim) Duncan; grandchildren, Laura Jane (Darren) Kessner, Danny Keith (Charlotte) Maglinger Jr., Lindsay McCord (Jason) Gabbard, James Robert Duncan III, Will Nicholas (Laura) Richard, and Liza Brand Richard; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Fred will be held at 2 p.m. Friday September 4, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with Steve Cripps officiating. Burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bridgepointe Church Renovation Fund 2706 Wesleyan Park Plaza Owensboro, KY 42303. Memories and condolences may be left for the family of Fred Maglinger Jr. at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
