James S. Jones

James "Sammy" Jones, 69, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born January 21, 1939, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Joseph Earl and Rena Baird Jones; was retired from Green River Steel where he worked for more than 20 years; and was a member of the Owensboro Christian Church. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diane Mayton Jones; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Donna Jones of Owensboro; a daughter, Kim Jones Owen of Owensboro; grandchildren, Blake Owen, Kara Owen, Chase Jones, Kristy (and Jason) Prater, and Misty (and Ryan) Powers; great-grandchildren, Taylor Trogden, Grayson and Jackson Powers, and Lincoln and Jada Prater; brothers, William D. (and Gerry) Jones and Donald Earl (and Pat) Jones of Owensboro; a sister, Judy (and Jim) Lambert of Owensboro; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services are 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Myke Templeton officiating followed by burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Tuesday and after 11 A.M. on Wednesday.
