James "Jim" Harold Nation

James “Jim” Harold Nation, 92, of Owensboro, passed away on January 11, 2024, at his home while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. James was born in Owensboro on March 17, 1931, to the late George "Alton" and Oleta Read Nation.

Jim served in the Naval Reserve and later joined the US Army during the Korean War. Post-war, Jim embarked on a career in the gas industry, initially working at Texas Gas. He later managed a gas company in Springfield, Tennessee, where he remained until retirement. A passionate aviator, he was a private pilot and a handyman inclined to mechanical and electrical tinkering. Along with his wife Patsy, Jim was an avid traveler, exploring various destinations such as Alaska, Hawaii, Niagara Falls, and the Grand Canyon. He also returned to South Korea during a trip for veterans who served during the war and visited the DMZ there. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Spencer County, Indiana. Those who met Jim may remember him for his fondness for handing out gold dollar coins to those around him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his death by his siblings, Leonard Nation and Barabra Ann Nation.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Patsy Nation; children, Patti Sue Cummings (Mike), Frank Lynn Nation, and James Michael “Mike” Nation (Linda); sister, Mary Jo Mansfield (Porter); and many loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
