James "Jim" Thomas Lee, 95, of Owensboro passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. James was born September 23, 1921 in Breckenridge County to the late James Elvis and Beatrice Potts Lee. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended the Mavericks Sunday School Class, and also enjoyed baseball and football.
James was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II and the Korean War before retiring after 20 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He also was a member of the Navy fast pitch softball team, a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, a Kentucky Colonel, and a hospital lifetime volunteer. James was also a member of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky F & AM, Owensboro Lodge 130 F & AM, and Stanley Chapter OES #253.
James was preceded in death by his spouse and mother of his children, Freda Wahl; also spouse, Margaret DeJarnette; sister, Helen Alvey; brothers C.A. Lee, John Lee, and Earl Lee; an infant sister, Esther Ruth; and Infant brother, Leonard Lee.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Linda Bakel and her husband Jim of Owensboro; sons, Larry Lee and his wife Suzanne of Owensboro, and Ray Lee and his wife Kathy of Owensboro; his longtime companion and caretaker, Evelyn L. Ambrose; grandchildren, Niki Moss (Philip), Katie Sims, Jason Lee (Becca Oursler), Amanda Dikici (Ozkul), Rachael Roberts (David), Christa Clark (Ryan), Jamie Aull (Nick), Matthew Lee; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of Nieces and Nephews; sisters, Fannie Benton, Rachel Chinn, and Jean Jordan.
The service will be 12 PM on Wednesday March 29, 2017 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Paul Strahan officiating. Entombment will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 PM to 8 PM and Wednesday after 10 AM at the funeral home.
