James Ray Hatfield

James Ray "J.R." Hatfield Sr., 87, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2014. Mr. Hatfield was born on February 24, 1926 to the late Gilbert and Frankie Hart Hatfield.

He was the owner of Hatfield Reality Company and served as President of Owensboro Board of Realtors in1975. J.R. was a charter member of Century Christian Church, a 60 plus year Mason of Owensboro Lodge 130 F & AM, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of Western KY Consistory. A Veteran of World War II, he served with the Army in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of The Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696 and The American Legion Post 9. J.R. enjoyed spending time on his farms but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and great granddaughters.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Lucy Hudson Hatfield; only child, James Ray Hatfield Jr.; and sister, Betty Oliver.

Survivors include his only granddaughter Nicole Hatfield Haley; great granddaughters, Hannah Haley and Emma Grace all of Owensboro; brother, Reece "E.R." Hatfield of Leitchfield; sister, Imogene Redmon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend and caregiver Debbie Howard.

Expressions of sympathy make take the form of donations to Century Christian Church.


Services will be held 12 noon Saturday February 22, 2014 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service on Saturday. Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens
