James Anthony "Poppy" Hamilton, 79, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 surrounded by family and friends while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born December 15, 1936 in Daviess Co. to the late Carl and Mercedes Young Hamilton.
James was a man of many talents. He was a very hard worker throughout his life and was willing to help anyone. He could engineer, construct, or repair anything he set his mind to and was dedicated to precision in his work. James was retired from Green River Steel after 32 years of service.
James was a very kind and loving man and never met a stranger. He was very religious and prayed everyday, loved his family very much as well as his church, St. Williams Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He was always so greatful for all his many friends. He worked at church picnics for over 40 years, coached Eastern Little League baseball, and was a board member at the Bishop Soenneker Home for several years. He also enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and a garden, and watching U.K. basketball and Nascar racing. He loved to ride his motorcycle, fish with his friends, and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Ashley Nichole Hamilton, and a brother, Charles Patrick Hamilton.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife Linda Keown "MiMi" Hamilton of 59 years, his son, Randall D. Hamilton and wife Susan of Philpot, three grandchildren, Kristen McIntire and husband Shane of Owensboro, Kourtney Daniels and husband Colton of Owensboro, and Logan Hamilton of Philpot, four great grandchildren, Peyton, Carter, and Gracie Lynn Daniels, and Brantley McIntire, a sister, Elizabeth Ann Clark of Owensboro, several nieces and nephews, and his sweet little dog, Shiloh.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, at St. Williams Catholic Church with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 8:00 A.M. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
