James "Jim" E. Hagan Jr., 71, of Philpot passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born November 15, 1947 in Owensboro to the late James Edward Hagan Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Volk Hagan, Jim graduated from Holy Name High School in Henderson (class of '65). He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and after being honorably discharged went into business as the owner of South-N-Foods after which he became the Business Administrator at Immaculate Catholic Church from which he retired. Jim was commissioned twice as a Kentucky Colonel and recognized as Kiwanian of the Year and Jaycee of the Year. He was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed camping, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Woods as well as the Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, and the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Jennifer Todd Hagan; sons, Jay Hagan (Debi) of Hatfield, Indiana and Joe Hagan (Joanie) of Owensboro; daughter, Janet Stewart (Jack) also of Owensboro; eight siblings, Tony Hagan, Sharron Carter (Charlie), Tom Hagan (Brenda), Cathy Hagan, Angie Hagan, Bill Hagan (Nancy), Martha Hagan, and David Hagan (Becky); twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass for Jim Hagan will be 1:00 pm Thursday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 until 7:00 with prayers at 6:30 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
