James Edwin Foulke, 62, of 5023 HWY 142, Philpot, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Brazil, Ind., native retired from Daviess County Middle School where he taught Industrial Arts for 28 years, and worked at the Summit Country Club since retirement. He was a 47-year member of the Thruston United Methodist Church; was church treasurer for 29 years and taught Sunday School for many years. A graduate of Daviess County High School (DCHS), he was recently enshrined in the DCHS Hall of Fame as a member of the 1958 State Basketball Runner-up Team. He graduated from Western Kentucky University (WKU) earning both his bachelor and masters degrees . Mr. Foulke was a board member of the Daviess County Teachers Federal Credit Union; Kentucky Antique Farm Machinery Association; the WKU W Club; and was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique tractors; DCHS, WKU and St. Louis Cardinals sports, and spending time with his family, especially his pride and joyhis five grandsons. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Evelyn Knox Foulke in 1975.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Ann Birkhead Foulke; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Dannette Foulke of Paducah; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Steve Hayden of Philpot; five grandsons, Clark, Andrew and Luke Hayden and Quintin and Colby Chandler; his father and step-mother, Basil Edwin and Monia Foulke of Owensboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law; Barbara and Bruce Glover of Hawesville, and Janice Hall of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 P.M. Saturday at the Glenn Funeral Home with entombment in the Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-8 P.M. on Friday and after 11 A.M. on Saturday.
