James Harold Floyd Sr., 89, of Owensboro, passed away on July 28, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. James was born July 30, 1927 in London, KY to the late Luther and Mary Hillard Floyd. He loved to bowl, was a member of several bowling leagues, and he also worked at Diamond Lanes for many years. James was retired from Civil Service as part of United States Army Aviation Support Command, and was a member of the America Legion. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tennessee during WWII and in the United States Air Force as a member of the first air unit sent into the Korean War.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Schirmer; and a brother, Gerald Floyd.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Viella Hand Floyd; his sons, James Floyd Jr. and his wife Tami of Big Lake, Alaska, Gerald Floyd of Owensboro, and Terry Floyd and his wife Amy of Dallas, Ga; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Kelley and Sandy Wheeler; and brothers, Mitch and Don Floyd.
A funeral service will be 7 pm Monday July 31, 2017 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Tommy Webb officiating. Visitation will be Monday 3 till 7 pm. Burial will be 11 am EST Friday August 4, 2017 at The Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard Radcliff, Kentucky 40160.
