James (Jim) Fitzhugh, 95, of Owensboro, passed away on September 1, 2025. Jim was born on June 24, 1930, in Central City, Kentucky. He graduated from Owensboro High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Jim earned his accounting degree from Brescia College.
A devoted professional, Jim spent the majority of his career with Wyndalls Enterprises, from which he retired in 1995. He also worked for GE and Gatton Motors early in his career.
While Jim enjoyed playing golf and tennis with friends, his greatest passion and priority was always his family. He cherished his loved ones deeply and was a constant source of support and wisdom.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Gertrude (Pal) Fitzhugh, and his mother, Benita Clark Fitzhugh.
He is survived by his sister Jean Fitzhugh Payne, son, Dr. David Fitzhugh of Plano, TX; four daughters, Patricia Fitzhugh of Lake Worth, FL, Sandra (David) Conley of Cumming, GA, Amy (Joe) Rymer of Nashville, TN, and Leanne (Steve) Payne of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Ashlee (Andy) Veit, Alison (Colt) Huggins, Meaghan (Chris) Stranix, Courtney (Scott) Matzen, Jimmy (Marla) Conley, Kendall Payne, and Mason Payne; and twelve great-grandchildren, Louise and Conley Veit, Evy, JJ, and Pete Stranix, Wesson, Lani Grace, and Lawson Huggins, Murphy, Myers, and Grady Conley, and Charlie Matzen.
Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, followed by a committal service with military honors in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
