James E. Daugherty

James E. "Jim" Daugherty of 2231 Twenty Grand Ave., Owensboro, passed away Monday, January 17, 2005 at home after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigh's Disease), surrounded by his family. He retired from Century Aluminum in 2004 as an electrician after 34 years of service, of which the last 17 years he worked without missing a day. He was a talented musician who played guitar with the band Stillwater Revolution in the 70's and 80's. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he was a music minister. He participated in the first Koinonia at St. Pius and was a sponser with the Engaged Couples Program. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening and vacationing with his family and friends in Panama City Beach, Florida. Two of his favorite past times were working crossword puzzles and watching UK basketball. Loved to entertain family and friends with his guitar and joke telling. He never met a stranger. His motto was, "I 'm my own best friend."
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Daugherty and a brother, Stephen D. Daugherty.
He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 38 years, Patricia D. (Wells) Daugherty; a son, Jared E. Daugherty and fiance Destiny L. Vanover; two daughters, Angie D. Morrison and husband Jeff, and Amy L. Payne and husband Bobby; four grandsons, Austin J. Osborne, Kent J. McCarthy, Jacob A. Osborne and Wesley P. Osborne; his mother, Geneva B. Daugherty all of Owensboro; two brothers, Gene Daugherty and wife Thelma of Owensboro, and Vic Daugherty and wife Debbie of Centertown; three sisters, Betty Girten and husband Hick, Rena Banks and husband Jimmy, Patty Scott and husband Randall all of Daviess Co.; his mother and father-in-law; Earl and Betty Wells of Owensboro; two brothers-in-law, Allen Wells and wife Diana, Greg Wells and wife Sue all of Owensboro; two sisters-in-law, Jane Peveler and husband Dwain of Smyrna, TN, and Ann Shelton and husband Billy of Louisville. He has several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 20, 2005 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers at 7:30 and Thursday after 9:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
