Jim Sarge Coons, Sr., 68, of 416 W. Legion Blvd., Owensboro, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. and was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church. He was a retired Master Sargeant with the U. S. Army after 21 years of service.He was a Viet Nam veteran and had received the Purple Heart Medal and the VietNam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the AmVets, the Disabled American Veterans, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a life member of the 1st Calvary Division. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed yardwork, gardening, and helping his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, William K. Coons in 1944 and Lillian Pagan Coons in 1981.
Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Raveewan Coons, three daughters, Sriwan A. and husband, Chad Page, Sandra W. Richey, and Tawan M. and husband Ryan Siebels, all of Owensboro, two sons, James and wife Tina Coons, Jr. of Sunbury, Oh. And Martin S. Coons of San Antonio, Tx., six sisters, Virginia Pearson and Sarah King, both of Owensboro, Margaret Galloway, Elizabeth Edwards, and Martha Latham, all of San Antonio, and Brenda Parrott of St. Petersburg, Fl., three brothers, Thomas Coons of Owensboro, Robert Coons of San Antonio, and Andrew Coons of Leesburg, Fl., and nine grandchildren, Seana Coons, Martin Coons, Jr., Zachary Gary, Katelynn Young, Marcus Clouse, Chelsey Page, Madison Page, Madison Siebels, and Codie Coons.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, June 2, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 696 of Owensboro.
