James Francis “Frankie” Cecil, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, November 23, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born November 28, 1941, to the late Charles and Georgia Cecil. Frankie was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. He dedicated 15 years of his career to WR Grace, prior to becoming co-owner of Shady Rest BBQ with his best friend, Bobby Clark, for 31 years. Most of all, Frankie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending numerous sporting events and family get togethers.
In addition to his parents, Frankie is preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Cecil Jr.; brothers, Bernard Cecil, Bobby Cecil, Leon Cecil and Paul Cecil; and sisters, Marie Simmons and Sr. George Ann Cecil; brother-in-law’s, J.C. Higdon and Robert Simmons; and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Cecil.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Rita Cecil; children, Lisa Cecil Phillips (Tommy), Jeff Cecil, Ronnie Cecil (Lisa), Cynthia Riney (Steve); brother, Hugh Cecil (Betty); sister, Mildred Higdon; grandchildren, Brandon Fuqua (Sheryl), Masden Riney (Brianne), James Cecil (Morgan), Jansen Riney (Scarlett), Chloe Cecil, Keely Cecil, Housten Riney (Cassidy), Zach Cecil, Joe Cecil, Will Cecil, Lindsey Riney and Lily Grace Riney; great-grandchildren, Preston Fuqua, Kolton Fuqua, Easton Riney, Shiloh Riney and Maddox Riney; sisters-in-law, Beverly Cecil and Missy Cecil.
The Funeral Mass for Frankie will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 27, at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 PM until 6 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers taking place at 4 PM. Visitation will also be from 10 AM until time of Mass at the church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Brescia University, for the James F. Cecil Jr. Scholarship Fund, 717 Frederica St, Owensboro, KY 42301.
