James O. Burns

James O. Burns, 71, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 at his residence. Born September 18, 1935 to the late Rev.(Pentecostal) James H. and Mary Bell Himes Burns, Mr. Burns had worked at W.T. Grants where he was the Receiving Manager, Harvey Aluminum and the American Legion. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War serving on the USS New Jersey and the USS Canberra and was a Gold Gloves Boxing Champion while on the Canberra. He was a charter member of AMVETS Post 75 where he serves as a Trustee and was a Past Post Commander. He also held several state offices with the State Department of AMVETS. Mr. Burns was also a member of VFW Post 696 and the James Yates American Legion Post 9 and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Burns.

He is survived by his former wife of 18 years, Mary A. Burns; a son, James Randall Burns of Owensboro; daughters, Sandra K. Minton, Charlotte (and Brian) Statts, and Pamela (and Stan) Morris all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Nicholas Burns, Tessela Burns, Jessica Statts, Seth Burns, Sierra Burns, and Hannah Statts; a sister, Barbara Green of Owensboro; and brothers, Donald Burns of Ft. Worth, TX, David Burns of Princeton, KY, and Bill Burns of Reed; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 3-8 P.M. Tuesday and after 10 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
